Stormy weather and temporary problems with hall lighting did not get in the way of First Tae Kwon Do Western Australia’s recent grading examination. With only limited time available to shoot, I still managed to capture some action. Bearing in mind that these are not posed scenes, I was pleased with the composition of the picture showing the back kick technique, directly below.
Taking a photograph of a basic technique being executed by a group simultaneously is not too difficult. Shooting good sparring photographs, on the other hand, can be quite hard. The biggest problem I ran into during this particular grading was locking and tracking focus; perhaps it was the uneven lighting that contributed to this.
It was good to see several photographers recording the event for posterity, and I expect their work will appear on FTKD WA’s Facebook and Instagram sites soon.
